Too often eating white rice, the person is at risk of developing diabetes type 2 diabetes, according to a new study.
The results of a study conducted by researchers at the Harvard school of public health in Boston showed that people who ate 3 servings of white rice per day, are more likely to develop diabetes type 2 diabetes than people who ate 2 servings a week.
And the more white rice a person consumes, the higher the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, estimated by the authors: according to them, the risk of diabetes increased by 11 percent with each daily serving of white rice.Closeup of rice on chopsticks and a bowl on mat
The researchers analyzed four previous studies examining the relationship between consumption of white rice and diabetes type 2 diabetes. Two studies were conducted in Asia (China and Japan) and two in Western countries ( USA and Australia).
According to the researchers, they tried to establish whether there is relationship between consumption of white rice and the development of diabetes among residents of Asia, where people traditionally eat a lot of rice, and in the West, where rice is consumed less. In studies that lasted from 4 to 22 years, participated in a total of about 352 000 participants, none of whom had diabetes at baseline.
Ha vol 13 284 people developed diabetes. The relationship between growth of rice consumption and diabetes risk was found in Asian and in Western countries, although the inhabitants of the countries of Asia even stronger.
The relationship between rice and diabetes was higher in women than in men. Researchers have noted that rice has a high glycemic index. This means that the body quickly converts the carbohydrates in rice into glucose. The glycemic index of white rice is about 64 on a 100-point scale.(For comparison, ice cream has a glycemic index of 61, and orange juice — 50).
