Consumers losing interest in tablets

Company International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that the global market for tablet computers in the third quarter of this year remained “in the red”.

From July to September on a global scale sold about 40.0 million tablets. This is 5.4% less than last year’s result of 42.3 million devices. The observed pattern analysts attribute the high popularity of smartphones and phablets, as well as with the stabilization of the market of traditional personal computers. In addition, consumers prefer not to hurry with the update available at the hands of tablets.

Undisputed market leader is Apple with 10.3 million sold during the quarter, the iPad. The company’s share in annual terms, increased from 21.9% to 25.8 %.

Second place goes to Samsung with 6 million sold devices. The Korean company controls 15,0 % market share from 15.4 % a year earlier. On the third line of the rating is Amazon with 4.4 million of the tablets shipped: company’s share for the year rose from 7.5% to 10.9 %.

Followed by Huawei and Lenovo, those shipped in three months approximately 3.0 million tablets. The share of the first of the two companies has risen from 6.0% to 7.5 %, and the second — from 6.5% to 7.4 %.

All other suppliers collectively held a third of the world market, equivalent to 13.3 million tablets in volume.
