Chrome will consume less energy

The new facility will reduce by 25% the number of “heavy” background tabs.

Chrome version 57 is able to save battery life by limiting background tabs.

Now the browser can determine which tabs are using more than 1% of the CPU, and restrict their operation after 10 seconds from the moment of transition to the background.

The decision in the first place should evaluate the users of laptops, tablets and other devices, frequently used without a power supply.

As promised the developers, the new facility will reduce by 25% the number of “heavy” background tabs. Separately it is noted that this mechanism will not affect tabs that play audio or use under the protocols of WebSockets and WebRTC with the active compounds.
