Archaeologists have found the remains of a fish that lived more than 420 million years.
In the Chinese city of Qujing in China’s Yunnan province, paleontologists discovered the fossilized remains of ancient fish. This kind of armored fish lived on Earth about 444 – 419 million years ago.
The remains were discovered by a group of scientists from the Academy of Sciences. They noted that the fish was 20 inches in length and possessed unusual scales: thick and solid plate had the shape of a rhombus and a close fit to the skin, causing the fish resembled “heroes in armor”.
In science a similar species was known previously. But this new type was given the name tingi kind Sparalepis in honor of one of the founders of Chinese Geology, Ding Wenjiang.
According to Zhu Min, fish tingi possessed some features of early bony fish. So, their thick scales also served a protective role. In our time this line have monetary and some other types of modern fish.
