The group of seven (G7, the “Big seven”) is the Union of economically developed countries, which includes USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, France and Japan. In the format of “seven”, the organization existed in years 1976-1997. After Russia’s accession to the Union has been called the Group of eight, or “Big eight” (G8). In March 2014, as a result of events in Ukraine and the ensuing crisis in relations between Russia and the West, the organization decided to return to the format of “seven”.
