The fragrance Chanel No. 5 was invented nearly a century ago, but still have not lost their popularity.
According to statistics, in the world every minute bought a bottle of that perfume. Today ordinary people associate the name of a legendary perfume with the name of the couturier Coco Chanel, however not all remember that the invention of the fragrance belongs to the French perfumer, born in Moscow, Ernest Bo.
Ernest Beaux is not accidentally tied his life with perfumery: his father was a famous perfumer, his elder brother was also keen to create fragrances. Brother worked in the largest Russian company “A. Ralle Ko”, which was the official supplier of the Imperial Palace. Ernest was endowed with a wonderful instinct of nature, but to understand perfectly all the subtleties of working with smells that went to France. There he was trained at the Chiris company, which was located in Grasse.
Ernest Beaux had lived in Russia before the First world war until he was mobilized to the front. To go back to his factory after the war, he could not – the production was nationalized. Ernest returned to France, continued the work of his life – the creation of fragrances. At this time, he met with the couturier Coco Chanel. At her request, is taken for the production of fragrance, which has become her trademark.
The long journey of the search for success: Ernest asked Coco a choice of five flavors. It is easy to guess that the heart of the Coco Chanel won the fifth. And there was the name of the perfume Chanel No. 5, which won international fame. For the presentation of the new fragrance Chanel also chose an unusual way: it was proposed to Ernest to make 100 bottles of the new perfume and sent them the most eminent representatives of high society on the eve of Christmas. The result exceeded all expectations: about Chanel No. 5 told everything, and when it came time for the official launch of the fragrance, the sensation was achieved!
The success formula of Chanel No. 5 was the fact that Bo mixed over 80 ingredients, receiving a truly unique flavor. Coco Chanel knew how important it is to position perfume, so in the design of the bottle she refused the usual frills: instead of a crystal bottle she preferred the strict rectangular bottle, which seemed more suited for a men’s Cologne than women’s perfume (according to one version, the shape of the vial is borrowed from the vodka bottle). However, the choice was the right one: brand the style of Chanel No. 5 has not changed for almost a century.
