The debut Champions League match in Kharkiv was successful for Shakhtar’s almost the perfect scenario. The Pitmen managed to score an early goal and go to the game in the counterattacks and in the second half Ferreira after a stunning transfer Stepanenko brought the hosts to a resounding victory. The ending of the match was Shakhtar’s difficult, but wards Paulo Fonseca survived and became a real contender to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Paulo Fonseca (FC Shakhtar): “First of all, I want to say that we played against an opponent of the highest level. I think today we can not allocate my players who had a very brave game. We played well defensively, not allowing Napoli to disperse their attacks.”
Maurizio Sarri (Napoli): “We lost to a team that deserved to appear in the first basket. Today Shakhtar were more aggressive and more confident. Shakhtar have had difficulties in defense. Mertens is well dispersed attack. Need more players so I had a longer bench”.
