Cassini saw a strange phenomenon in the rings of Saturn

The rings of Saturn, today scientists believe, arose as a result of the destruction of the “embryo” of the planet in the early days of the Solar system

The probe “Cassini” received the most detailed pictures of the nearby rings of Saturn and saw a lot of “props” — bright vortices and waves, according to the jet propulsion Laboratory of NASA.

The rings of Saturn, today scientists believe, arose as a result of the destruction of the “embryo” of the planet in the early days of the Solar system. He came too close to the planet, the giant, was ripped apart by tidal forces and crushed into many small fragments, the densest of which was “eaten” by Saturn and Titan, and the rest formed the material of future rings.

New images from Cassini during the last “dive” in the rings of Saturn, you can see a kind of “folds”, “straws” and “propellers” walking on the surface of the ring And middle to the planet of gas and dust disk and its neighbors. Of these structures, scientists started talking back in 2004 with the release of Cassini in orbit of Saturn, but the first photos were taken just this winter, when the probe began to fly through the rings.

How to tell the scientists, the new photographs allow us to draw a line between large “propellers” that Cassini saw at the beginning of his mission and which is attributed to the existence of the moons inside the dust of Saturn’s rings and small structures of the kind found recently. Their study will help to understand how did those moons when they were born and how long they live.
Recently Cassini has officially launched the final phase of his life, the last time he met with a Titan on April 22 of this year. The convergence of this moon of Saturn has helped the probe to change the flight path and go on a collision course with the planet, in the atmosphere where it will burn in mid-September of this year.

During this time Cassini will make 22-of-flight through the gap between the rings and their “Lord”. Two weeks ago he performed the first pirouette, most closely having approached the Saturn and getting a lot of new scientific data on the subsoil and the atmosphere of the giant planet. For added protection, the probe NASA launched the main antenna, Cassini so that it became a barrier and prevented the spacecraft from bumps dust and micrometeroids.
