The so-called DPR and LPR leadership considers Kiev adopted the decision about the transport blockade of Donbass as a de facto recognition of the independence of the breakaway republics. This was stated by the leader of LNR Igor Plotnitsky.
Carpenter also suggested a referendum on joining Russia.
“Such a referendum will be obligatory. Of course, we want to initiate, but all the time. In fact at the beginning the question was to immediately go the way of Crimea, that we became part of the Russian Federation, but turned out a little different, but this matter has never been withdrawn,” said Carpenter, answering the question whether it is possible in the people’s Republic referendum on reunification with Russia as it was in Crimea.
According to him, “if such a referendum will be held, and it is sure to be, the results will be the same as in the Crimea.”
