Vegetables and fish contain a special ingredient that makes these products very useful for heart health.
This is the conclusion of the studies came to the Polish scientists.
In the experiment carried out on rodents, the researchers fed laboratory mice a solution with very large or relatively small doses of the substance trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), which is formed in the blood when used in a large number of vegetable and fish food.
It turned out that the TMAO was having a positive effect on the heart and blood vessels of animals, protecting against thickening of the walls and the development of cardiac hypertrophy. Due to this rodents is approximately two times less likely to suffer from heart attacks and circulatory problems.
At the same time, according to experts, the consumption of large amounts of meat and eggs, by contrast, leads to a drop in the concentration of TMAO.
