This discovery may contribute to the development of new drugs
The group of cardiologists from the medical center Western Connecticut state University have discovered a protein that could signal a heart attack.
As noted by the head of research Bruce Liang and his colleagues, during a heart attack in the blood of the patient increases the level of protein fragment called caspase-3 p17, which could be a new biological marker of the destruction of the heart muscle.
According to Liang, the discovery could be very important in cardiology as, defining the content of caspase-3 p17 that this patient faces a heart attack, you can take action and keep the heart function. In addition, this discovery may help in developing new drugs that prevent cell death of cardiac muscle.
According to the American heart Association, coronary heart disease leading to heart attacks and myocardial infarction, is the leading cause of death in the United States.
