Canadian province abolished the stringent requirements of the dress code in the workplace, whereby women were required to wear shoes with high heels.

The government of British Columbia said that such demands are discriminatory, and can also threaten health and safety. Authorities believe that the women in high heels are at risk of injury – they can slip, fall and damage the legs and back.

The shoes should be designed so that people can work safely, says the decision of the government of British Columbia. The requirement to wear high heels at the Cannes film festival or at work in place – recently became the subject of fierce disputes.

In late January, the two committees of the British Parliament presented the report “High heels and a work dress code”, where it was proposed to introduce a law prohibiting employers to demand that women’s compliance with a discriminatory dress code.

In the report, in particular, reference was made to the case of Nicola Thorpe, which was sent home from work due to the fact that it appeared in the office in flats and not high heels.
