Why is olive oil so healthy.
Everyone knows the benefits of olive oil – it has a positive effect on the digestive system, promotes good vision and even helps to reduce the risk of cancer. But a new study has revealed another benefit of olive oil.
As it turned out, it helps maintain healthy blood circulation and cleanses the arteries from “junk”.
The Mediterranean diet, rich in olive oil, improves high-density lipoprotein, better known as the “good” cholesterol (HDL), explained study author Dr. Alvaro Hernan from the Institute of medical research in Barcelona.
This type of diet includes lots of fruits and legumes that are rich in antioxidants. And a lot of vegetables, whole grains and olive oil.
And preference is given to also lean sources of protein like chicken or red fish that contain a lot of saturated fat.
“Our hypothesis is that these dietary antioxidants can communicate with the HDL particles and to protect them from various attacks. But if the HDL particles are protected, they can efficiently perform their biological functions. Therefore, the ability to remove cholesterol from the arteries or longer to promote relaxation of the blood vessels”, – said Hernaez.
In addition, the high level of “good” cholesterol (HDL) reduces the risk for a heart attack.
