The model will premiere in 2018.
BMW launched a test model of the revived 8-Series on public roads. Spy photos of the test prototype of the new car, which will debut in 2018, was published by Auto Express.
Judging by the pictures, the coupe will retain the General outlines of the eponymous concept car, which premiered in may this year. While the production car will differ from the prototype a different grille, front and rear optics, as well as more conventional exterior mirrors.
Revived BMW 8-Series will be built on a modular platform CLAR, which already underlies, for example, “five” and “seven” of the new generation. This chassis provides for installation of different engines, from a two-liter “fours” to 6.6-liter 12-cylinder unit.
According to preliminary data, the most popular versions of the model will be offered with six – and eight-cylinder engines, which at the moment are equipped with BMW “fifth” and “seventh” of the series. Plus, it is possible that the range of engines will include three-liter diesel engine with four turbines, developing 400 horsepower.
Finally, the “eight” will appear sporty M-version with the upgraded 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that the new M5 sedan develops 600 horsepower.
