Blind surfer conquered a dangerous wave. Photo

The man was shocked the society by their act.

Brazilian Derek Rabelo (Derek Rabelo) – I’m not the only surfer who conquered the pipeline – the most powerful and deadly wave in the world. But other surfers it is distinguished by one thing: he’s completely blind and in the water relies on other senses.

When Derek was born, his father, Ernesto decided to name the boy in honour of Derek Ho, the first Hawaiian national anthem. Ernesto himself surfed and dreamed that his son followed in the footsteps of his father and the man in whose honor was named. Unfortunately, because glaucoma the boy was born blind, and about surfing, it seemed, could forget, but the boy’s relatives were sure that he would be able, if they wish, and even become a surfer.

With two years dad took Derek to ride a bodyboard. He has always been comfortable in the water, surfing was in his blood, but he actually tried to ride the wave, until he was 17 years old. Then my father bought Derek’s surfboard. Dad taught Derek the basics, but the boy himself understood that he needs to practice a lot to become a professional surfer. He enrolled in a surf school and learn from the coach Fabio Mara.

“First, my father encouraged me and helped. We went to the ocean in the morning. He sent me to a surf school that I studied and practiced more. I also practiced a lot with friends, they treated me on an equal footing,” said Derek.

It is one thing to get on Board and stay on a small wave, and to ride the famous pipeline, is completely different. This is exactly what I wanted to do Derek just a few months of schooling. And he did, earning the admiration of legendary professional surfers. Video about how Derek won pipeline, inspired Director Brian Jennings to make a documentary.

How did Derek get to surf those waves, to which some sighted surfers are even afraid to approach? He just focuses on the other senses. Derek touches the waves, to feel their dynamics, and focused on hearing. “I listen to the ocean and feel it, the waves can be distinguished by the noise,” says Derek. “If you have a dream, you must believe in yourself. Otherwise you have nothing. I believe each of us God has given strong senses. Use them with enthusiasm and persistence”.
