Black holes: the main mystery of the cosmos. Photo

These mysterious black holes.

A black hole is a region of space that attracts the substance that is within her reach and nothing comes out, even light. The reason why this “hole” is black, is that it “sucks” all the light which falls within its borders (the so-called “event horizon”) and reflects nothing back. Although black holes little is known, scientists have developed their own theories about their properties and structure.

1. Black holes affect time

Just as clocks are a bit slower at sea level than on the space station, they go very slow near black holes. This is due to the influence of gravity.

2. The closest black hole is at a distance of 1600 light years from Earth

In our galaxy full of black holes. Even in the center of the milky Way at a distance of 30,000 light-years from Earth is a giant black hole, which is more than 30 million times greater than the Sun. But the chance that one of them will destroy the Solar system are very small because they are very far away.

3. Black holes eventually evaporate

Although it is well known that nothing can escape a black hole, there is at least one exception – radiation. According to some scientists, as the black holes emit radiation, they lose mass. This process may eventually kill the black hole.

4. Black holes are not infinitely small

At some point collapsible – the black hole becomes smaller than an atom or electron. But it eventually reaches the Planck length, quantum size limit and this leads to the fact that it becomes impossible to measure.

5. Form a black hole is not a funnel, and the scope

In most textbooks you can see the image of a black hole in a funnel. This is done in order to illustrate them from the perspective of the “gravity well”, which they essentially are. Actually they are more like spheres.

6. The rotation of the black hole

When the core of a star collapses, the star spins faster and faster and becoming smaller in size. When it reaches the point at which it does not have enough mass to become a black hole, it shrinks, forming a neutron star and continues to spin. The same applies to black holes. Even when the black hole shrinks to the Planck length, it continues to spin.

7. Around a black hole, things get weird

Black holes have the ability to distort space itself. And as they continue to spin, that distortion gets distorted also. This infinite regression of distortions.

8. A black hole can kill a creepy way

Although it seems obvious that a black hole is simply incompatible with life, most people think that they are just crushed. This is not necessarily so. The person is likely to stretch to death and tear as the part of his body, which first reaches the event horizon first will encounter a terrifying force of gravity.

9. Black holes do not have only destructive

Of course, in most cases, they simply destroy everything what “reach”. However, there are numerous theories and assumptions that black holes actually can be used for energy and space travel.

10. Black holes can be huge

Although just claimed that black holes are small, it is not always the case. They are becoming more and more when faced with other black holes, allowing their size increases with every clash.

11. There are different types of black holes

Modern astronomers claim that there are actually different variations of black holes. There are spinning black holes, electrical black holes, and spinning electrical black holes. Type of black hole depends on the amount of energy they emit when they deform space.

12. Albert Einstein was not the first man who discovered black holes

Albert Einstein only revived the theory of black holes in 1916. Long before this, in 1783, a scientist named John Mitchell developed the theory of whether a gravitational force so strong that even light particles cannot escape it.

13. Black holes can be very dense

In order to have gravity, enough to attract even light, a black hole must contain an incredible amount of mass in a very small space. This means that black holes must have a mass of approximately 10 to 30 billion times the mass of the Sun.

14. Black holes can create elements that make life possible

Researchers say that black holes create elements that when they destroy matter into subatomic particles. These particles have the ability to create elements heavier than helium, such as iron and carbon, as well as many others, which are important for the formation of life.

15. In the center of a black hole violates the laws of physics

According the theory, the matter inside a black hole “pressed” to the infinite density and no longer exist space and time. When this happens, the laws of physics simply cease to work, because in ordinary conditions nothing can exist with zero volume and infinite density.
