The bell Big Ben in London will stop for four years, until 2021. Such measures have been taken to preserve the hearing of workers who are to restore the Elizabeth tower in the Palace of Westminster.
This publication reports the Evening Standard.
The bell is detached from the clock mechanism is next Monday, August 21. This will leave the opportunity again to make it work on big holidays like New year and the Commemoration of the resurrection.
It is noted that this decision is controversial: the workers were able to provide hats with hearing protection. But stopped thinking that for people who will work at high altitude, it is important to listen to each other, to be able to raise the alarm.
Earlier, Big Ben would fall silent for service in 2007 and before that in 1983-1985 year for a previous large-scale reconstruction.
