Little George Denbrough is playing with a paper boat during a heavy downpour almost flooded his hometown of Derry. One small delay and the boat disappears from sight, falling into a sewer drain. And from there, sparkle two evil eyes… So Georgie becomes another victim awakened from a 27-year-old slumber of a monster that feeds on the fears of children of Derry, and then kidnaps and devours them in his underground lair. The creature is so incredible, that has no name and It is called. And the only company the seven children who call themselves the Losers ‘ Club, decides to repel this ancient evil.
Let’s face it, a new version of the “It” we waited with slight trepidation. Probably the cause is not only a classic performance of the title role of monster Tim Curry in the television version, 1990 (without him, in fact, represents the pass pretty sight), but the recent failure of the long-awaited “the Dark tower”, overcame in the process of preparing to shoot all the circles of production hell and ended up unprincipled empty. And let the heavy draft adaptation of the novel about the clown-infanticide also held a series of difficulties, including the loss of the Director and almost full upgrade scenario (the indignation of professional clowns doesn’t count), in this case what didn’t kill “It”, made him stronger. Moreover, significantly stronger than expected. The film is steadily winning on all fronts, as I’ll explain.
Perhaps the most pleasant discovery of the film adaptation – this is a stunning casting of the Club Losers. Each of the guys so aptly falls into a role that to single anyone out is not possible. And the chemistry between their characters is seething at the highest level. Although a separate line I said would be amazing Sophia Lillis – initially, such a choice seemed dubious, but she exceeded all expectations and showed on the screen the very kingovskoy Beverly Marsh, which is so easy to fall in love in the novel. Oh and about Pennywise you once again not to speak. Bill Skarsgard impressively showed itself in the trailers and in the film his performance is so beautifully and organically that the best and ask uncomfortable.
From technical performance to “It” also find fault with almost unreal. Another “Mom”, it became clear that Andres Mosketti able to do spectacular and at the same time extremely pleasing to the eye the spectacle, and there’s performed at the highest level. Perhaps a similar effect is observed in all read the book people – it’s hard to worry about characters when you remember who of them will survive to the finals, and who is not. And yet sometimes on scenes I would like more surprises and more suspense, because of its reduction (and disregard the famous statement of king of monster’s behind the door monster, standing in front of you in full growth) has led to the fact that the film was almost not a bit scary. Yes, and some discrepancies with the book cause unanswered questions – for example, for me remained a riddle why Pennywise not eaten the victims completely, and hung in the air.
Stephen king and his many Constant readers finally came not just worthy, but one of the most remarkable and iconic adaptations. Whether “It” a little more terrible – and it generally the prices would not be. But even a slight shift of the project from the pure “horror” on the field “dark fantasy”, it remains brilliantly shot, masterfully calculated and just lively and entertaining spectacle.
