Sebastian Kurz, whose party leads in elections in Austria, does not exclude that will form a minority government if he fails to negotiate with other political forces in Parliament.

The leader of the Austrian people’s party (övp) Sebastian Kurtz (Sebastian Kurz) on Sunday evening, 15 October, announced the victory of his political power in the parliamentary elections. At the same time, his party will not be able to get a majority and will be forced to seek coalition partners. However, Kurtz does not exclude that will form a minority government. “Of course, I would like to form a stable government. If this is impossible, there are other options,” said Kurtz, the TV channel ORF.

Kurtz added that he plans talks with all parties in Parliament, but only after having counted all the ballot papers sent by post. This counting will begin on Monday, October 16.

According to the forecast results after counting more than 90 percent of the vote, the ANP becomes 31.4%. This was 7 percent more than in 2013. On the second and third place with the minimum gap – the Social democratic party of Austria (SDHP), in which 26.6 percent of the vote, and the right-wing populist Austrian freedom party (fpö), in which 26.5% of the vote.

Failed elections can be for the Austrian Green that according to the latest projections, gaining 3.8 percent – less than 4 percent threshold.
