The Parliament of Catalonia adopted the law on the referendum on independence.
According to supporters of separating the Autonomous community of Spain, the law will allow them to conduct a referendum on 1 October.
The bill was passed with the votes of members of parties having absolute majority in favour of the independence of Catalonia.
The Spanish government considers it illegal and it will challenge the decision.
In June 2017 Spain have vowed to block a referendum on Catalan independence. This was stated by the representative of the government of Spain, iñigo méndez de Vigo. “Every step, starting from the announcement of the referendum before the vote, will be blocked by the government,” he said, calling the referendum illegal.
