The authorities decided to close the beach from June to September 30.
Thai beach Maya Bay, located on the island of Phi Phi Le in Thailand, is one of the most beautiful places in the world. However, after the release of the movie “the Beach” in 2000 with actor Leonardo DiCaprio there began to come too many tourists.
If in 1998 before the release of the tapes Thailand was visited by 7.7 million tourists in 2017 their number increased to 35 million. Almost daily Paradise beach Maya Bay is visited by more than 5 thousand tourists.
Because of this, the Thai authorities decided to close the beach from June to September 30. Environmentalists are sounding the alarm as to see the beach from the movie where Oscar-winning DiCaprio enjoys the view of the ocean, committed too many volunteers. Already destroyed almost 72% of the coral reefs close to the beach and the beach is just “exhausted” from this influx of tourists.
“Thailand is a beautiful country, and we need to protect our natural resources,” – said Advisor of the Department of national parks Thailand.
However, tourism is an important source of income for Thailand, so the beach will not be closed forever starting from September 30 it will be available to everyone.
