The Minister of internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov underlines the need for reform of the Rules of traffic in Ukraine to increase security on the roads, the press service of the MIA of Ukraine.
The Minister assured that due to the speed limitation, video surveillance, and other measures on increase of responsibility for violation of traffic regulations, in a year significantly reduced mortality on the roads.
“As a driver, I like to travel without many restrictions. But the facts – stubborn things. And if between 60 km/h and 50 km/h are 80% dead, I have no doubt: you need to do limit of 50 km/h”, – said A. Avakov on Saturday, arguing a reduction of speed in settlements that are in the list of changes in the Rules of the road developed by the interior Ministry.
“We got killed on the roads four times more people than atoms – is nonsense,” – said the Minister.
He is convinced that the time has come to pay full attention to the issue of road safety, which largely depends on their quality. “Matter the quality of the roads – the quality of the coating, marking, regulation. This is a separate direction of development. And there is a special program, which is administered by the Department of transport,” – said A. Avakov.
The Minister also added that changes should happen not only in this direction, or in Ukraine, but throughout the Ukrainian society.
