Austria proposes to amend the EU rules on asylum.
Austria proposes to create a new set of EU rules on asylum, which will bring the process of making applications outside the EU and introduce the upper bound of the number of asylum seekers in each member state.
This was stated by the Minister of defence of Austria Hans Peter was Doskocil in an interview with German newspaper Bild.
“We are talking about the termination of the failed European asylum policy. We must admit to ourselves and be honest that the EU has limited ability to accept more migrants. We need to stop illegal immigration,” said was Doskocil.
The Minister wants the process of accepting applications was conducted in centres in countries such as Niger, Jordan, Uzbekistan, under the auspices of the United Nations.
“We must create an orderly system of legal of movement for persons granted asylum. Submission of applications for asylum in the future should only happen outside the EU”, – said Doskocil.
According to the Minister, it will also allow people who can’t afford to travel to the EU, to qualify for asylum and apply in special centres.
At the same time, illegal migrants who were refused asylum and who cannot return to their home country, to be resettled in safe areas related to the centres for asylum.
