Audi is planning to rename some models

The German manufacturer decided to change the names of their vehicles.

German carmaker Audi is introducing a new designation of their models. Now on the covers and doors of the trunk of all models from Ingolstadt will show off a new double-digit index.

His innovation in the Audi explain the need to establish a clear hierarchy for each family of models. What was bad the old designation? The fact that with the advent of hybrids, the volume of the motor are not correlated with their capacity, but in the case of fully electric machines displacement does not occur.

A two-digit index is designed to solve this problem, because it will be tied not to the working volume of the engine, and to power. However to understand exactly how many “horses” under the hood still will not work, but it will be easier to distinguish between a less powerful version of the Audi from the more powerful. So the number “30” would correspond to a range from 110 to 130 HP, “45”, from 230 to 252 HP, and all versions of the more powerful 544 HP will receive the designation of “70”. Next to the digital index will remain familiar letter designation power unit — TFSI, TDI, g-tron or e-tron.

The new designation will become an international standard of the Audi and will be used on all models except S and RS lines, and the supercar R8. The first Audi, which will get a two-digit index will be the new “eight”. Limousine A8 will come to market with engines 3.0 TDI (285 HP) and 3.0 TFSI (340 HP) – these versions will correspond to the indices 55 50 TDI and TFSI.
