Renowned violinist and singer Assia Akhat presented an unusual video for the new song “Twist”. Such a singer the audience have never seen ever. ACAT has not only changed the appearance, but also engaged in magic. The clip begins with the fact that at dawn she walks through the grass barefoot, whispers something and hides in the hands of a ball of yarn. And it’s not just a picture – it looks like real magic ritual, which in the final turns her into a doll.
The plot is based on ancient Ukrainian tradition to weave dolls. Once women gave them to their husbands, children, relatives, it was believed that they protected them from trouble. And that dolls had the power, they were woven by the special rules and only with prayer. The video Director, a famous fashion photographer Sonya Placidus for which this work became the debut role of music video Director, studied popular culture and talked with those who today, a century later, is engaged in the manufacture of amulets.
“I want to emphasize that this is not only about the relationship between a man and a woman. We filmed twins, young boy and girl, mother and daughter, which will also show you how they weave the bonds,” said Sonia, Placidus.

“The song “Twist” is very important to me, I wanted to give her some special attention. When we first thought about the shooting, Sonia met a woman that deals with the study of the old pagan Ukrainian culture, was fascinated by the history matanog and offered to make this key storyline. This is very unusual and iconic! We turned to the tradition, but linked with the ancient culture and contemporary style, hence the new-to-me images – short hair, blonde hair, red lipstick… the Latter is not inherent in me neither in life nor in music videos. In General, it’s a completely different, fantastic places, mystical story,” summarizes Assia Akhat.
