Consumption of asparagus reduces the risk of developing diabetes, say Pakistani researchers from the University of Karachi.
The researchers observed in laboratory rodents in diabetic condition. Within 28 days one group of rodents received antidiabetic medication, while the second extract of asparagus. Comparative analysis of animal blood showed that high doses of asparagus extract significantly influenced the production of insulin in the pancreas — the organ that releases hormones into the blood.
Experts believe that this discovery will be especially helpful for people with type 2 diabetes, as regular intake of asparagus helps control blood sugar levels and increases insulin production, which helps the body to absorb glucose.
