According to experts in the falling sales to blame for several factors.
According to preliminary data from the International data Corporation IDC, the global volume of smartphone sales fell by 4.1% in 2018.
For the entire year were shipped 1.4 billion devices, it is “the worst year in the history of smartphone shipments,” according to the official website of the IDC.
In the last quarter of 2018 providers of smartphones sent in total 375,4 million devices, which corresponds to the reduction of the market compared to the same period of the previous year by 4.9%. It was the fifth consecutive quarter, when the market declined year on year.
“The worldwide smartphone market is now in confusion. With the exception of several fast-growing markets such as India, Indonesia, Korea, and Vietnam, in 2018, we have not seen much positive activity,” said Ryan Reith, Vice President of IDC program for tracking mobile devices around the world.
According to experts the drop in sales blame several factors, including the lengthening of replacement cycles gadgets, increasing levels of penetration in many major markets, political and economic uncertainty and the growing frustration of consumers with the price of new smartphones.
In China, which accounts for about 30% of world consumption of smartphones, 2018 was worse than 2017, while sales declined by slightly more than 10%. At the same time, 4-leading-brands, including all Chinese – Huawei, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi, – increased its share of the Chinese market to about 78% compared to 66% in 2017.
A leader in the global market with 20.8% left Samsung, though sales of the South Korean manufacturer declined last year by 8% to 292 million smartphones. Fell and delivery of the Apple, which is still in second place with 14.9 percent, by 3.2% to 209 million
Fairly strong growth was shown by Chinese manufacturers: Huawei delivery has increased in 2018 33.6% to 206 million, the Chinese company with a market share of 14.7%, almost caught up with Apple. Xiaomi has been in the top five in 2018, with the annual exports have increased by 32.2% compared to the same period last year, sales have exceeded 100 million market. Like who took 4th place OPPO, India and Indonesia remain the main markets outside of China. However, Xiaomi has succeeded in several markets in Western Europe.
With the continued challenging market conditions in the first quarter of 2019, the probability of decline in the market this year is becoming more real.
