Ice cover in the Arctic reached a record over the past four decades

After 15-20 years the Arctic ocean will be completely free of ice cover during the summer months, but it has some advantages, in particular for shipping companies that can find new sea routes. The staff of the National data center for the study of glaciers and snow stated that the ice cover in the Arctic reached a record over the past four decades – now it reaches 13.8 million square kilometers.
During the year, the glacier area is reduced by approximately 50 thousand square kilometers, but the rate of temperature rise in the Arctic over the last half-century was exactly two times higher than in all other regions of the world. It is possible that the disappearance of glaciers in the Arctic will lead to the fact that the Panama and Suez canals will be completely unnecessary, because the route from Asia to Europe will pass through the Northern sea route.
