The remains of a man found in Gough’s cave in the UK.
London researchers have found evidence of ritual cannibalism, which occurred 15 thousand years ago.
After a detailed examination of the bones under a microscope found traces of cuts, impact damage and carved patterns. They are a sign of a certain ritual.
Scientists have also found signs of violent death. So maybe ancient people ate their tribesman who died a natural death. And ritual patterns indicate that the reason for cannibalism was not hungry.
“The sequence manipulation shows that engraving was an integral part of a complex ritual cannibals, because the marks had to have a symbolic connotation,” says the study’s lead author, Dr. Silvio Bello.
