It is assumed that this city was the mother tongue of the three biblical apostles
On the Northern shore of the sea of Galilee, archaeologists found the remains of Roman baths, which suggests that this place was the city of the ancient Romans, in which lived the Apostle Peter.
In addition to the ruins of the baths were found pottery shards, as well as two coins, one bronze, the end of the 2nd century BC, and the other is a silver denarius with the image of the Roman Emperor Nero, who ruled in the first century BC. “This means that there was a city, not just a fishing village. Bath indicates the existence of urban culture,” says study author Mordechai Aviam. The researchers note that the city also recalled the famous Roman historian Josephus. In particular, he noted that the name of the city was in honor of Julia Augusta, mother of Emperor Tiberius. It is assumed that this city was the mother tongue of three of the apostles of Jesus Christ – Peter, Andrew and Philip.
Professor Noam Greenbaum of the University of Haifa notes that the town of Julia, most likely, was abandoned by the inhabitants during the Byzantine period. The reason for this was the change in the level of the sea of Galilee.
