Apple told the details of the system Face ID

The facial recognition technology is not as secure as an alphanumeric password.

Apple told the details of the Face ID system that will replace the Touch ID for upcoming iPhone X.

Apple representatives noted that these scans are only stored locally on the device.

“If you use Face ID, a third-party application receives the notification about whether the authentication is successful, she can’t access the ID of the entity or the data associated with the registered face,” said Apple.

However, face detection revealed unexpected problems. Another presentation technology, September 12, Apple’s Vice President Phil Schiller admitted: “If you have an evil twin, you really need to protect your sensitive data with a password”. But it turned out that problems can arise not only from the twins.

“The probability of false positives increases for twins, brothers and sisters who are similar to you as well as for children under the age of 13 years, because of their individual facial features are not yet fully formed,” explains Apple.

Thus, the facial recognition technology is not as secure as an alphanumeric password. And, for example, in the world of Harry Potter Weasley brother with the new iPhone X would have difficulty.

Apple also described as Face ID will respond to changes in user’s face. “If you get a nasty scar on his forehead, the iPhone X will not recognize you. But if the scans show a partial match, and you enter the correct password immediately after that, Face ID is going to use “partial match” as the new reference point.”

While details about what exactly is a “partial coincidence”, the company failed. Apple also noted that the Face ID is to follow the “natural changes your face over time”.
