Andean chandelier: the greatest mysteries of Peru. Photo

Peru is an amazing country, where, according to scientists, the first intelligent civilization.

The Nazca lines in southern Peru are among the most famous of geoglyphs on the ground, but this is not the only geoglyphs in the Nazca desert.

Approximately 200 kilometers to the Northwest is a remote and a few less popular geoglyph called the Paracas Candelabra. It is also known as “Andean Chandelier” due to the similarity to a candlestick with three branches.

Geoglyph depicted on the sloping hillside in the Bay of Pisco on the Peruvian coast. The line was cut in the soil at a depth of approximately one meter and covered with stones in a later period. The tall figure of 181 meter large enough to be seen from a distance of twenty kilometers in the open sea.

The Paracas candelabra is attributed to the Paracas Culture of the first Millennium BC. This conclusion made on the basis of pottery found in the area. Her radiocarbon Dating showed an age of 200 years BC pottery likely belonged to the Paracas people, although their involvement in the creation of the geoglyph is still not confirmed.

Form of a geoglyph in the form of Trident is perhaps the staff of the God Viracocha mythological figures in ancient beliefs of South America. Some say it’s more like a cactus. Obsessed alternative theories of the writer Frank Joseph was able to see the similarity with the hallucinogenic plant Datura Stramonium. His theory is that the prehistoric inhabitants of the Paracas region went to the North in California to collect this plant, and the geoglyphs were used to facilitate the search for the way back. The idea of the purpose of the geoglyphs for navigational assistance is not isolated. The locals believe that it was used by sailors to refer to the Peninsula.

The Paracas candelabra, still remains an unsolved mystery. Along with the Nazca Lines it demonstrates how little we know about these places and precolombina cultures in General.
