After Brexit the UK would own powers to impose sanctions, approved by law for maintaining the relationship with the UN and the EU to impose sanctions.
United Kingdom of great Britain and Northern Ireland after leaving the European Union will maintain sanctions against the Russian Federation.
The Minister for European Affairs and America sir Alan Duncan said during a speech at the 14th annual international conference “Yalta European strategy” (YES) in Kiev today.
“What’s at stake? Not only the right of Ukraine as a sovereign independent state, to choose their own future… But the credibility of the international order based on rules,” said Duncan.
According to him, European and international security depends on compliance with this order.
“And that is why a coordinated and determined international response to Russia’s actions is very important. Sanctions against Russia should remain an important part of this response,” said Duncan.
“Immutable unity of the EU, the US and the “Big seven” on sanctions sends a very powerful signal of our common rejection of the Russian action and demonstrates our collective attitude about what Russia cannot be allowed to violate with impunity international law,” – said the Minister for European Affairs.
“And we in the United Kingdom, when we leave the EU, we will have our own powers to impose sanctions, approved by law, that we might cooperate with the UN and the EU to impose sanctions,” – said Duncan.Go to the Main page
