After joining the Peninsula to the Krasnoyarsk territory, the lives of the people “has become unbearable”
The initiative group of inhabitants of the Taimyr (a Peninsula in Russia) a few months seeking a referendum on autonomy territory.
Activists have sent an open letter to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the government, Parliament and Governor of Krasnoyarsk Krai Viktor Tolokonsky with the requirement to initiate the adoption of the Federal constitutional law, which will return the status of the Taimyr Autonomous district.
According to the initiative group, after the accession of the Peninsula to the Krasnoyarsk Krai in the mid-2000s, the lives of the people “has become intolerable,” the deterioration has occurred in the sphere of public services provision, transport, medicine, education.
Three activists filed papers to the election Commission on holding a referendum and twice refused. The third time the district Council deputies will consider the document on August 23-24. However, members of the initiative group are sure – they again will be rejected.
The activists conducted a survey among the population of Taimyr. Of the 1,200 respondents in support of autonomy expressed 1197 people.
Local authorities claim that the law that would allow the Taimyr municipal district to once again become Autonomous County no.
