A volunteer staff of Navalny was sentenced to two years in prison for posts on the social network

The lawyer of the condemned intends to appeal the verdict.

The volunteer staff of the Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny in Cheboksary, Alexei Mironov, was sentenced to two years and three months in prison on charges of public calls to extremism and incitement to hatred in social networks “Vkontakte”.

The verdict was passed by the Novocheboksarsk city court. Mironov was found guilty under two articles of part two of article 280 of the criminal code (public calls for extremism on the Internet) and article 282 (inciting hatred or enmity). On the first point, the prosecution Mironov has received year of a colony-settlements, the second – year and three months. His lawyer will appeal the verdict.

According to the investigation, in July 2016 Mironov on his page “Vkontakte” I published the picture with the caption “I’m officially calling for violent change of power”, and later with a post saying about Muslims. These two episodes became the basis for the criminal case under two articles of the criminal code.

In August 2016, the court fined Mironov 1.5 thousand rubles on charges of public display of Nazi paraphernalia or symbols (the first part of article 20.3 of the administrative code) because of the repost of the picture where Putin was compared with Hitler.
