A resident of Thailand has received a long prison sentence for insulting the monarchy

Authorities have described the actions of the citizen as a serious crime against the current Constitution.

A citizen of Thailand, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for publishing on the web a few videos insulting the monarchy.

61-year-old male named Tara, whose name was not disclosed, was arrested in 2015 for the posting of material allegedly offensive to the ruling dynasty in the country..

The man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for violating article 112 of the criminal code of Thailand, to defend the honor of the king, Queen, Regent and heir of Thailand. The court sentenced him to 20 years in prison, but since Tara was in prison in 2015, the term was reduced to 18 years.

The verdict can not be appealed, because at the moment of detention the government has been under special military law imposed after the coup of 2014.
