Spiders of the family barotropically were previously found only in the Northern and Central parts of the South American continent.
In Colombia, scientists found and described eight spiders that earlier this area was not seen. Six of them became members of the new species, but four of them formed a new genus.
The researchers argue that spiders of the family barotropically were previously found only in the Northern and Central parts of the South American continent, but in Colombia previously were not found. Their work, scientists published in ZooKeys.
The Uruguayan arachnologists found and described in Colombia, eight species of arachnids. Six of them meet for the first time. Scientists have combined four new species in one genus which was named after the stormtroopers from “Star wars” Stormtropis. The researchers were inspired by the similarity of these spiders among themselves as well as their ability to camouflage. These spiders use natural camouflage in the form of sticking to them particles of the soil.
Scientists often call their discoveries after characters from any TV shows and movies. So in 2017 there is a new species, which was named in honor of uragoga of books about Harry Potter. And in March of this year described a new species of the weevils, which have received names in honor of the heroes of the movies, myths and even scientists.
