The Earth is rapidly approaching a huge asteroid, the diameter of which reaches up to 260 meters. The space object will pass near the planet on July 11 of this year. This was reported by researchers from Urfu.
Asteroid number 2017 MC4 at high speed will fly near Earth on 11 July at 00:03 in the Ural time (possible deviations from a specified time 37 minutes). A celestial body refers to a group of near-earth asteroids, called Apollo. According to scientists, the orbit of objects in this group cross the Earth’s orbit from the outside.
This asteroid, which is the speed of 74.7 thousand kilometers per hour, is considered potentially dangerous. Scientists calm: the collision with the Ground will not happen, because the distance between the celestial body and the planet at the moment of closest approach will be 2.9 million kilometers.
According to the latest data, the Earth can destroy even a smaller asteroid – just a collision with an object with a diameter of 140 m.
