Russian MFA reaction due to US demands to close the Consulate in San Francisco.
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov promised to take steps in response to the claim of the United States to close the Consulate in San Francisco.
This is stated in the message of the foreign Ministry.
It is reported that on August 31 at American initiative was held a telephone conversation of Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Lavrov with the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. “The Secretary of state called specifically in order to inform you that soon will be announced further restrictions on the activities of Russian diplomatic missions in the United States and outlined their main content.
In response, the Minister expressed regret at the escalation of tensions in bilateral relations, initiated not by us, and indicated that Moscow would carefully review the Americans announced the new measures will be informed about our reaction,” reads the message.
Recall, the US authorities demanded to close the Russian Consulate in San Francisco. The report notes that the United States has fully complied with the requirement of the Russian Federation on the reduction of the presence of its diplomats in Russia. It is also stated that Russia’s demands were unreasonable and detrimental to relations between the two countries.
