Ukrainian scientist and specialist in extreme solitary survival, Sergei Gordienko for the third month at the oars — he decided to sail to Georgia on the Black sea. The journalists communicated with the traveler and learned how is his expedition.
59-year-old associate Professor of the Kyiv University of economy and tourism Sergey Gordienko travels almost his entire adult life. Started with sports tourism, has twice reached the North pole and the first in the history of Ukraine there was established the national flag, thrice crossed Siberia, sailed in a canoe on the Amazon river, and in Yakutia, according to him, came into the fight with the bear-eater, for whom he had a keychain with a claw of an animal.
This year Gordienko planned solo expedition by kayak in Georgia on the Black sea. A journey of 3900 km under the name “Bridge of the Commonwealth”, the researcher planned to finish before the first frost, but bad weather has made adjustments. The storm caught our survivalist from the Turkish coast and forced to stay in Istanbul for almost a week. “The sea is stormy for eight days, Gale-force winds of 25 metres per second, you need to wait. And while there is time to explore the city. Yesterday I was in the Church at communion, met with the Ukrainian Consul,” — said the “news” Gordienko.
Struggling with wandering waves
From the North coast of Turkey traveler will head for Georgia. But neither the date nor the city, which may have to stop until predict not taken.
“The black sea is very dangerous and unpredictable. Due to the currents and winds there is always the risk of falling in the surf zone near shore. The main goal of the expedition — hours of material on the psychology of human survival in extreme conditions (Sergey — the author of a special course on this subject), observation of weather conditions and living organisms in the sea. So, on the map Gordienko marks the place where there are white sharks. Says that they are off the coast of Bulgaria, Turkey, Caucasus, and three years ago have seen a shark in the Crimea. “It is wrong to say that in the Black sea are found only leopard sharks and spiny dogfish. Come here and oceanic species of fish,” says Gordienko.
Without fat, but with chocolate
As told to us by the traveler, most importantly in its food recruitment — cereals and canned goods. Fish and shellfish catches himself, and seasonings and chocolate brought from home. But the fat had to be abandoned — Gordienko said that it breed bacteria. Alcohol only uses for medical purposes.
This researcher is already planning a new expedition “Biblical Meridian” (kayak journey from the Dnieper to Israel with a unique icon).
